Information on Housing Programs

Federal - Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC)

CMHC is dedicated to advancing  housing solutions across Canada, by working with the private, public and non-profit sectors to help develop affordable housing. The services they offer include providing information on housing statistics for researchers and organizations, financial assistance for groups to plan, develop and build affordable housing projects, and mortgage loan insurance for consumers.

Seed Funding for Affordable Housing Projects

Seed Funding offers financial assistance to housing proponents who are in the early stages of developing an affordable housing project. A project proponent interested in developing an affordable housing project for rent or to own may be eligible for a grant of $10,000 to assist with the preliminary planning and research.  An additional no-interest loan of $10,000 may be available if the project proceeds.

Proposal Development Funding

Proposal Development Funding loans help with expenses that may be incurred early in the development process and are intended for affordable housing project proposals. Eligible expenses include environmental site assessments, project drawings and specifications, professional fees, cost estimates, and management plans among others. Projects may be eligible for up to $100,000 in funding.

Provincial - Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC)

SHC provides funding for a number of ongoing and new housing programs and services for low to moderate-income households, landlords and shelter providers with an identified need. Assistance may be in the form of forgivable or repayable loans or grants. Programs include social and affordable rental housing, home renovations, repairs and energy retrofit programs, home adaptations programs, supports to independent living for seniors, and homeownership options.
