Skill Build - Workplace Essential Skills

Essential Skills provide the foundations needed for success in work, learning and life. Human Resources and Skills Development Canada has identified nine Essential Skills, used in varying complexity, across nearly every occupation.

  • Continuous Learning

Increasing Essential Skills will better prepare apprentices for the required technical classroom trianing and examinations. Skill Build courses are taught by residential construction industry leaders to ensure the most relevant and current information is provided. Skill Build's objective is to help workers develop skills that are attractive to employers, while providing opportunities for continuous learning.

Examples of Workplace Essential Skills training coordinated through the Canadian Home Builders' Association - Saskatchewan include:

  • Blueprint Reading Courses
  • Trades Math Courses
  • Oral Communication
  • Mentoring
  • Essential Skilsl Online

Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES) Assessments are also provided to measure reading text, document use and numeracy Essential Skills levels through questions that evaluate capacity to locate and use information related to workplace documents. They are also utilized to benchmark learning progress before and after Essential Skills course completion.
